Individual
Health Insurance is designed to ease the financial burden caused
by adverse changes in one's health. These adverse changes may be
a result of sickness or injury. There are two general types of personal
health insurance, the indemnity plan and the PPO.
The
indemnity plan is usually a high deductible offering that allows
the member to see the doctor or hospital of choice without any network
constraints. This is typically the more expensive individual health
option available due to the plan's flexibility.
The
PPO plan gives the member the option of staying in-network, where
out of pocket costs are lower, or venturing outside the network,
incurring higher out of pocket costs. Like the indemnity plan, a
deductible is usually associated with the plan. This option is typically
less expensive than the indemnity plan.
