Group Voluntary Insurance

Group voluntary insurance typically is an employer sponsored insurance plan that allows employees to select voluntary employee benefits according to their needs. The most common types of these policies include voluntary life insurance, voluntary disability insurance, long-term care insurance, cancer insurance, heart/stroke insurance, accident insurance and critical care insurance. To ensure that every aspect of group voluntary insurance is covered, other varieties are also available from Synergy Benefits.

Life Insurance packages purchased by the employer are often offered to employees at more affordable rates than if they were to obtain them individually. As a result of the reduced costs, employees can then opt for more extensive coverage plans as per their personal requirements.

To better assist you in the decision-making process, below is a brief description of the different types of group voluntary insurance that we offer.

Voluntary disability insurance

This type of insurance provides disability benefits that protect earning power should you experience a debilitating disability. There are two types of disability insurance: short-term disability and long-term disability. As the name suggests, short-term disability stays in affect for a predetermined time period, whereas long-term disability provides coverage when one suffers from an extensive disability for a long period and short-term benefits have been exhausted.

Voluntary life insurance

There are two categories of life insurance: term and permanent (which includes whole life and universal life). With term life insurance, policies are issued for a specific time period, whereas with permanent life insurance, policies remain in force as long as the premiums are paid and until the policy reaches maturity. There are two types of permanent life insurance.

Long-term care insurance

Long-term care insurance is usually not covered by health insurance or Medicare and Medicaid. In general, it provides benefits for those who are not necessarily sick, but cannot perform regular activities necessary for daily living. Such policies usually supply home care assisted living, adult daycare, respite care, hospice care, nursing home funding and Alzheimer’s facilities.

Group voluntary insurance is funded through a deduction in the employee’s paycheck in accordance with the specified voluntary employee benefits. voluntary life insurance, voluntary disability insurance and long-term care insurance, among others, are advantageous to both employers and employees. They allow employers to provide attractive benefits packages to valuable personnel and, to employees, the fact that they are individually chosen is a major plus.
